EV charging times will vary depending on which method you choose to charge your electric vehicle in Rye. How long does it take to charge an electric car on average? Different EVs have different battery packs—and electric car charging times will vary depending on the model you choose. With Level 2 charging, a new EQS can be charged from 0% to 100% in under 12 hours. If you’re in a hurry, locate a public Level 3 Charging station to recharge from 10% to 80% in less than 40 minutes.
We can help you learn more about the three main types of EV charging — domestic charging, rapid domestic charging, and public charging—and you can chat with the experts at Mercedes-Benz of Greenwich about the specific charging times for your vehicle. Read on or contact us to learn more!
A normal grounded (three-prong) 110V/120V charging outlet doesn’t offer a fast charging speed, but it may be a good option for topping off some of the charge you used commuting to work that day. Level 1 charging takes around 24 hours or more for a full charge. In reality, and with your daily driving, it will take days, not hours, to charge with this method.
Level 2 Charging is typically professionally installed. It uses rapid 240V+ chargers most often made for your brand of car. It will have significantly faster charging rates than using a regular grounded household outlet—making it perfect for overnight recharging.
Public charging stations are becoming increasingly popular around Stamford and surrounding towns. You’ll often find charging stations at big-name national stores. These charging stations vary in type and speed, so you may encounter either Level 2 Public Charging or Level 3 Public Charging.
Level 2 public charging works about as quickly as Level 2 charging at home. But if you’re going to be running errands or relaxing around town for several hours or more, plugging into a Level 2 charging station ensures that you’ll be ready to go when the day’s work is done.
Level 3 DC fast chargers allow you to obtain an 80% charge in 30-40 minutes. However, the remaining 20% will take longer due to the diminishing rate of charging speed. Since Level 3 charging stations take a greater toll on your battery, we recommend this option only when time is of the essence—for example, when you’re making a long-distance trip!
Domestic car charging times vary based on whether you choose Level 1 or Level 2 charging. This is what you need to know:
Home chargers offer 3.7 kW or 7 kW charging, public stations, on the other hand, offer 22 kW charging, 43-50 kW rapid charging, and 150 kW rapid charging. For some vehicles you could get a full charge (0-100%) in an hour or so. In other cases it could take 4 hours, 6 hours, or 11 hours for a full charge.
