If you’re in the market for an electric vehicle, then you’re looking for a vehicle that can help support your new eco-friendly lifestyle. While there are many options for electric vehicles for you to choose from, what about when it comes to the different types of electric car chargers? Are all electric car chargers the same?
Luckily for New Canaan drivers, electric car chargers are universal! All EVs require the same standard plug for Level 1 and Level 2 charging, which are the two most common forms of charging. That being said, the only charger that is brand-specific is the Tesla Supercharger. Read on to learn more, then browse our new vehicle inventory to find your next new car!
Are all electric car chargers the same? The answer would be no, not when it comes to charging efficiency. The different types of electric car chargers are as follows: Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Charging speed is what sets these levels apart, so take a look below to learn more about each, including where they’re typically found:
Level 1 chargers have a charging speed of 3 to 5 miles per hour. The charging equipment is plugged into a standard wall outlet, so there is that ease of use benefit. As this level is the slowest, keep in mind it’s good for plug-in hybrid vehicles since they have smaller batteries.
With that said, you should also know that level 1 charging isn’t recommended for drivers who are constantly on the road so if you intend to make longer trips, you may need to look into a different charger.
At Level 2 charging can add anywhere from 12 to 80 miles to your EV per hour. With this charger, you have a bigger range for your daily commute and weekly errands. This type of charging can be installed at your home, workplace, or in various other public places like plazas, so there is vast accessibility in Greenwich.
When it comes to level 3 charging, it’s the fastest option of them all with a charging speed of 3 to 20 miles per minute. Here, these chargers take advantage of direct currents, over what the other levels use. Typically, you won’t see these levels in Rye homes either so keep that in mind.
