If you’re comparing the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLB vs. GLE, then you may already know that both models offer standard seating for five, optional seating for up to seven, and the luxurious amenities you’d expect from any Mercedes-Benz. Of course, the GLE is the more luxurious model of the two. It offers a wider range of trims to consider and a more potent engine suite, too. Is it worth it to move up to the GLE? If you aren’t yet ready to test drive both models at our Greenwich dealership, explore the ins and outs of both models by reading on!
The 2021 GLB starts at $38,050 MSRP*. The first step up, priced at $40,050 MSRP* in total, will net you 4MATIC® all-wheel drive. Beyond this, most available features are spread out across a range of different packages–and that means it’s easy to get what you desire without paying for features you don’t need. You can also jump to the 2021 AMG® GLB 35 SUV ($49,500 MSRP*) for more power and more luxuries. There are more options to consider if you’re looking at the GLE lineup:
In between these two Mercedes-Benz SUVs, you’ll encounter the Mercedes-Benz GLC. Compare the GLB vs. GLC to learn more about your options.
The GLB comes equipped with a 2.0L inline-4 turbo engine, delivering 221 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. That’s more than enough power to propel its compact frame down the roads of Rye and Stamford, but some drivers may desire more. The GLE offers 255 hp as standard–just a little bit more power than the entry-level GLB! However, the GLE 450 churns out 362 hp. That’s already more than you can get in the AMG® GLB 35, with its 302-hp I4. Stepping up to the GLE 580 will get you 483 hp, and if you’re looking for something truly exhilarating, there’s the range-topping AMG® GLE 63. The latter’s 603-hp handcrafted V8 can take you from 0 to 60 in just 3.7 seconds, faster than any GLB by far.
Given the difference in pricing, it shouldn’t be surprising to learn that the GLE provides more luxurious standard features and appointments. However, since the GLB is a compact SUV and the GLE is a midsize vehicle, the most important differences are those between their dimensions:

Do you normally drive alone, without much bulky cargo? The GLB is likely more than sufficient for your needs. However, if you have adult or teenaged passengers to worry about, the extra space offered by the GLE just might make all the difference on your New Canaan-area errands. Crucially, only the GLE is rated to tow! If you’re the type to plan adventurous outings, you’ll relish its 7,700-pound maximum capacity.
