Mercedes-Benz vs. Lexus: Luxury Brand Showdown

2023 Mercedes-EQ AMG® EQE

Luxury vehicle enthusiasts have many options to choose from, and two of the leading brands are Mercedes-Benz and Lexus. Although both manufacturers offer outstanding selections, we believe that Mercedes-Benz consistently outshines Lexus in the debate for Rye and Stamford drivers.

Our guide from Mercedes-Benz of Greenwich compares the profiles of Mercedes-Benz and Lexus to help you decide which luxury brand suits your preferences.

Mercedes-Benz vs. Lexus History

Both automakers have a strong presence in the United States with numerous dealerships. Mercedes-Benz, however, boasts a much longer history of car manufacturing. Founded in Germany in 1926, Mercedes-Benz is a standalone brand, with subsidiaries involved in manufacturing and testing racing engines for Formula One cars, which reach incredible speeds of up to 230 mph.

Lexus, on the other hand, is Toyota’s luxury brand. Established in 1989, it is Japan’s largest luxury vehicle manufacturer. Lexus races its Lexus RC F GT3 on IMSA tracks.

Lexus vs. Mercedes-Benz: 2023 Models

For 2023, Mercedes-Benz offers 78 models and trims, while Lexus has a narrower focus with 11 models and approximately three trims per model, totaling around 33 releases. Many Mercedes-Benz models underwent minimal changes from their 2022 versions.

Both manufacturers introduced all-new electric SUVs for the 2023 model year, reflecting the growing demand for electric vehicles among American consumers. Both brands play a significant role in the EV investment in the coming years.

Mercedes-Benz vs. Lexus: American Presence

Mercedes-Benz operates two assembly plants in the United States, located in South Carolina and Alabama. The South Carolina plant manufactures Sprinter vans, while the Alabama facility produces GLE, GLS, and the all-new EQS SUVs.

Lexus has one assembly plant in the United States, situated in Georgetown, Kentucky. In terms of dealership numbers, Mercedes-Benz leads with 383 American dealerships compared to 244 Lexus dealerships.

Is Lexus or Mercedes-Benz Better?

We believe Mercedes-Benz outperforms Lexus due to its popularity among enthusiasts and experts, as well as its more extensive range of vehicles in 2023. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz has more dealerships and assembly plants in the United States with higher production outputs.

Expect to see more Mercedes-Benz vehicles on New Canaan and Greenwich roads as the automaker aims to capture a larger share of the luxury vehicle market.
