What is Mercedes-Benz PARKTRONIC®?

Mercedes Benz Parktronic with Active Parking Assist C-Class Sedan

PARKTRONIC® with Active Parking Assist is the latest Mercedes-Benz parking assistance technology feature, and yes, it can park your vehicle automatically. As you drive, PARKTRONIC® scans either side of your vehicle to alert you to any suitable parking spaces. Once you’re in position, the technology will ask you if you’d like to park automatically.

How to Use Park Assist

There’s nothing extraordinarily complex about PARKTRONIC® technology, but maybe you’re one of the resident skeptics in Rye or Stamford. We’d be happy to give you a closer look before you stop in and experience this new technology in person.

Here’s how to use Mercedes-Benz park assist in your C-Class or your GLE:

  1. Scan for Parking Spots: When you’re close to your destination and driving at 20 mph or less, Mercedes-Benz parking assistance technology will scan for parking spots. It can measure the distance between cars on both sides of the road, and if it calculates that a certain spot is large enough for your vehicle, an arrow will appear on your display.
  2. Select Your Gear: Engaging Active Parking Assist is as easy as shifting into reverse and pressing “OK” when the option appears on screen. Once you’ve indicated that you’re ready to park, you’ll just need to manage the throttle and the brake. The system will automatically steer you into position, and the PARKTRONIC® sensors will let you know if you’re too close to any other vehicle.
  3. Make Adjustments: Active Parking Assist may get everything right on the first try, but it may also ask you to shift into drive and back into reverse in order to finish the job. Once again, the system will take care of all steering. You just need to shift gears and supply the gas.

It is extremely important to remain vigilant when you’ve told your GLS or your C-Class to use park assist. Although your vehicle can monitor for pedestrians in some circumstances, you’ll definitely want to be on the lookout when this feature is engaged.

What’s worse than fitting into a tight parking spot? Getting back out, of course! Thankfully, PARKTRONIC® with Active Parking Assist is up for this challenge as well. When you turn on the vehicle, engage your blinker to let other drivers know that you’re moving out. The system will offer to steer you out, and all you need to do is press “OK”.
