Serving Greenwich, CT
Among luxury midsize SUVs, the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5 are leading options thanks to their exceptional features and engineering. While these models are in the same class and are frequently compared to each other, they have strong differences. What should you be aware of about the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE and the 2026 BMW X5 before making your next SUV selection?
Performance
Multiple trim levels with different powertrains are available for the GLE. One of these is a turbo four-cylinder, 255-horsepower unit. Another option is a turbo six-cylinder, 375-horsepower system. The GLE’s plug-in hybrid engine includes a turbo four-cylinder unit and boasts 381 horsepower. The most powerful engine offered is a 603-horsepower, turbo V8 system.
The X5 has three engine systems. These are a turbo six-cylinder, 375-horsepower unit and a turbo V8, 523-horsepower unit. A plug-in hybrid engine with a V6 is also available.
Appearance
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE stands out on the road with its high-caliber style, which expresses both elegance and power. Crisp definition lines add personality to the hood, framing the otherwise smooth side contouring. The triangle-spoke wheels add a modern touch from the side view. Over the front end, the wide grille flares outward and aligns with the thick LED headlights. These headlights make a statement with dual LED bulbs and several LED bars. While the grille has chrome columns, the triangle-shaped air vents display horizontal, black bars for contrast.
The X5, on the other hand, has a somewhat boxy cabin with a dramatically swooping hood. The sides display molded rear fenders. A chrome vent lines the front fender and underscores the door panels. At the front, the bumper is also framed by a squared-off chrome element. The grille is compact, while the LED headlights are pointed.
Features
The GLE is remarkably appointed with features like rapid-heating seats, a four-zone climate control system, powered soft-close doors, massaging front seats, a high-end sound system, climate-controlled cup holders, a head-up display, and more. Automatic parking comes standard on the GLE, which is a much-desired feature in the luxury midsize SUV category. The GLE also offers more room inside than the X5, with greater rear legroom and overall total cargo space.
The X5’s standard features include a three-zone climate control system, a 10-speaker audio system, satellite radio, a push-button ignition, forward collision warning, and several additional features.
